This is the last year that I will be eligible to try out for Canadian Idol (unless they change the rules re: age). Unfortunately I just learned that the auditions in Calgary already took place and I'm not about to travel to another city to audition there. It's not that I'd actually try out but considering this is my last eligible year I was kind of thinking about it. Riiight. Nearly forgot about the whole "I have a job and can't quit and leave my family to fend for themselves" thing.

Last week, while delivering mail, I did something stupid and embarrassing. I entered a small pizza shop and approached the counter. Normally if there is a person behind the counter they'll look up, realize I'm not a customer and reach out their hand to receive the mail.
On one particular day both employees were in the back. I tossed their mail onto the counter and turned to leave. Somehow (I have no idea how except to say that I'm a clumsy oaf) I managed to knock over a large plastic cylindrical container (cup?) of straws. They flew off the counter and the cup make a loud noise as it hit the tile floor. Straws were everywhere and I couldn't help but stand there like an stunned idiot. I nearly bolted, thinking one of the employees would come and pick them all up. I looked up but nobody was coming to my aid. So I bent down and, while trying not to drop the bundle of mail in my left hand, picked up the cup and placed in back on the counter. I then picked up all the straws and was able to hold them all in my hand (that's how few straws there were - only a handful...a large handful but I've got big hands).
Oh, nearly forgot. Right after the cup hit the floor I assume one employee must have asked the other what that noise was because I heard someone (the owner) say "He just knocked all my straws on the floor". And he emphasized the fact that they were all the straws he had, in the whole place. I believe it, only because it's a small shop and they probably don't have tons more in the back. Maybe they do. That's not the point.
With a handful of straws I had a decision to make. I had pretty much made up my mind that I was going to toss them in the large garbage can by the door. But when I stood up an employee (the owner?) was standing at the counter. He was leaning toward me with outstretched hand. He wanted the straws. To throw away? To place back in the cup? To wash and then place back in the cup? I don't know. What I do know is that when I entered the shop the next day, the cup was full of straws.

gross! That reminds me of the time i went to wendy's & they gave me the wrong baked potato (wrong fixins) and instead of throwing it out they put it into a drawer perhaps so that 3-5 hours later when someone else ordered a potato with those fixins they'd give them mine, who knows?
were they the straws in paper wrappings? if so not so tragic.. even if they werent i personally say no big deal if he uses them again... nothing that will kill ya, plus you know someones hands where on them to put them in the cup, and who knows where they were before the cup. so a little floor action doesnt gross me out.
then again i ate a jelly belly that jordan shot out of his nose.
