Day Two

Today was better and not better. I had two sets of flyers for the apartments. Doesn't seem like a big deal but some of those mail boxes in the older apartments are so small. Cramming flyers into boxes full of mail (because people like to pick up their mail only once a month) slowed me down quite a bit. Yesterday I didn't deliver any flyers and was able to cover the route within 3 hours. Today it took an extra 45 minutes. The nice part was that I actually got out to the route, and started delivery, 45 minutes earlier than yesterday. This obviously means I finished at the same time both days. Nice.

Interesting things I saw/experienced today:

  • Delivered a package to a customer who was, amazingly, actually home. His response: "Ooo! This should be my Klingon badges." He then told me that he has a whole costume, dresses up and goes to conventions in places such as Vulcan, AB. He went on, telling me to check out stuff about Vulcan on YouTube. The whole conversation was fascinating.
  • Realized that there's a house on my route that has Halloween decorations in their window (eg. bats and stuff).
  • Had an angry customer speak to me in a raised voice because I walked across his lawn. I apologised several times, telling him I was very sorry and wouldn't do it again. He said "This has happened 2 or 3 times now!" That's interesting because today was only my second day out there. He's right in being upset because I really shouldn't have walked across his lawn. My bad.
  • I think the cab driver that took me out to my route took my pen. Actually, I think I accidentally left it with him.
  • I made mention of the pen-stealing-cab-driver to the driver who picked me up from my route. When I told him "I think the driver stole my pen", he said "What a Jew!" I responded with "A Jew? Actually, I think he was Muslim". His response was "I'm Muslim too but you know what they say" and he trailed off.

lol, you had a very eventful day! Why does all the interesting stuff never happen to me?! I especially loved the cab drivers response!
