Blogging: The Phenomenon

Most blogs are never ending stories. A continual tale of what is happening in a person's life. That's what makes reading blogs so addictive. The story goes on. There will be another post, another picture. It keeps you coming back for more.

Back in the day, when we still had internet at home, I was more than addicted. I was out of control. I'd visit and revisit far too many blogs, several times a day. Did they update? Did anyone leave a comment? I need to leave a comment. Did anyone respond to my comment? Did they update again? And so on.

Now that I'm only accessing a computer about once or twice a week I've nearly kicked my habit. Usually the amount of time I have online is minimal, about 15 minutes. I have enough time to quickly check my email (where there is only spam), check my hockey pool (which I'm losing horribly) and try catch up on my blog reading. I've just spent the last hour and a half trying to catch up. I'm still not caught up. It's too much.

I've come to realize that the things most people blog about aren't even all that interesting. Kind of like what I'm writing right now. Yet we keep going back to read more. It's a strange thing this blogging stuff. I wish I had more to offer those that keep coming here. I have nothing.

Blogging on the Fly

Getting rid of the internet within our home has changed things, a lot. Now I have to try and squeeze in computer time while at my parents' place (like right now) or try to get on while at the library (where the computers are slow and the other day I somehow got booted off before I was done).

I have barely any time for blogging, be it reading other blogs or posting to my own. Even right now I should be driving home to eat supper. Don't even get me started on how little time I have for email (reading, writing and/or responding).

On another note, I've started a new position. Same work (sorting mail), different building (closer to home), new shift (8pm-4am). It's a good thing, but only for about month (I think).

Anybody else have trouble with Gmail today? Had to go use Hotmail. Blah.

(Why doesn't the spell check feature within Blogger know the words "blogging", "blogs" and "blogger"?)
